French Enamel Varnish is made from bleached and chemically dyed shellac. It is manufactured in several colours and is used to stain and varnish wood all in one process. It is also used on props and scenery where a transparent colour is required, such as stained glass or plastics.
Transparent French Enamel Varnish will not add colour to the surface, but it will varnish it.
Transparent French Enamel Varnish is particularly useful for the diluting of other, coloured, French Enamel Varnishes, where the aim is not to change the consistancy of the varnish, but rather to reduce the intensity of the colour.
French Enamel Varnish can be diluted with methylated spirits.
It is not recommended for flexible surfaces or cloths, or for durable surfaces such as floors.
Whilst this can be used to colour low wattage light bulbs, though our Lightbulb Paint is more effective and much more economic. Another option is to use Rosco Premiere Clear, to which you can add food dyes to achieve a coloured glaze.
